Cellular Memory

Photo: (c) Jamie K. Reaser

I wrote you a poem
last night
upon a shard
of memory.

These tiny cells of mine
resonate with the primordial
whisperings of
kindred dust.

Every part of me
has been something else
that embodied
passion.

The veins of this crimson maple leaf
may share an identity
with a past or future
lover.

"Tangible intimacy with the world,"

says the tree who
witnesses my rebirths,

"begins with gratitude
for the forgotten lives
that give you life."
