Be-loved Gaia

Image: origin unknown

Intimacy is the fingerprint

of a the fully present witness,

and I know Her body

well enough to read

the pigeon-feather spray of a

Cooper’s Hawk hit,

the rise of a toad’s gastric

passing in garden mulch,

the Monarch caterpillar's inscription

on late-season milkweed leaf.

Oh but the grief.

Someone has been here

before me.

All these wounds…

I leave no such mark

on my Lover’s body.

  1. Encountering Intimacy

    In the quiet
    On that clear afternoon
    We chose intimacy...

    Allowed it to hold us
    Like buds before spring...
Opened us beneath the mute sun

    It was as if
    The Everything
    Begin to fall

    Like incest
    Upon night
    Plundered us

    In our tiny-ness
    Filled us with dread
    With light...

    Pressed its mass
    And firmly gripped
    Our quaking margins...

    A Unity that insisted!

    Smeared galaxies
    Upon our salted glass
    And silently

    Suffused the searing
    Of our love looks...
    Our blood

    Angry with union
    Digested those bodies
    Churned those

    Glowing airs
    And reached out
    In its acidic need...

    All distinctions melted
    Into a living yellow
    Warmth ... and all

    Our fear and loneliness
    Evaporated
    Like sweet gasoline
