The Insistent Moth

Image: from http://unfoldingpaper.wordpress.com

Why do you insist

on the long beaten path

of suffering, and

sacrificing your glory-winged being

to the light?

You are of no service

crumpled under a lamp shade

or singed at candle toe.

Do you not know that

there is a lucid holiness

to be had in

the dark abyss?

Reject not the black heavens.

You have caterpillared

and cocooned.

Though death to form

may seem like a way of life,

This time the stars are

counciling you

to Live.

Oh my love,

what would it take

to extend your heart

and flutter your soul

while in the cup of

my gentle hands?

Out the door.

I have faith ~

When no longer an addict

of self-flagellation,

The Light that craves You

will enlighten within.

  1. I don't think I've ever returned to comment on someone's post twice before, but I am definitely drawn to this poem. I keep coming back trying to figure out just exactly why and what it means to me / for me. I can see how this could be very much about a specific individual, and, at the same time, have wide appeal and meaning. I think that's what makes this poem so good.

  2. Thank you for sharing a bit of your process Bill. I'm glad to know that the poem speaks to you deeply. Some of the poems "work me" for years after showing up.

    Blessings upon your journey...
