In loving memory of Leonard J. Soucy, Jr. - my first mentor and true friend
Man’s hand has crippled you,
Some beyond repair.
Guns, poison, pollution, and noise.
The unknowing child, the blood thirsty man.
Man’s hand has mended you.
Legs and wings set, operations complete.
The care and love of a few has pieced you together,
As you have piece together the hearts of those
who cared.
So now I lift you high on my gloved-hand.
The sun catches and brightens your feathers,
And you small bird, lighten its rays.
A final lift and release.
You’re free, oh wonder, free as before.
Soar on my friend, for eternity!
