The Unfurling

Image: Origin unknown (from Earthschool harmony's FB page)

Poem dedicated to Vara Dionne with gratitude for the inspiration

I cannot help but be moved

by the silent unfurling

of fiddlehead and

floral opulence.

What if I could come undone

with such beauty

and willful surrender?

Grace is the heart throb of the Beloved.

Let me speak with a tongue

of liquid pearls

and repeatedly turn mySelf

inside out

until my heart is evident to even

the weariest eye.

This, I feel,

is what it means

to unfold –

to risk to blossom

amidst a world of witnesses.

Cellular Memory

Photo: (c) Jamie K. Reaser

I wrote you a poem
last night
upon a shard
of memory.

These tiny cells of mine
resonate with the primordial
whisperings of
kindred dust.

Every part of me
has been something else
that embodied
passion.

The veins of this crimson maple leaf
may share an identity
with a past or future
lover.

"Tangible intimacy with the world,"

says the tree who
witnesses my rebirths,

"begins with gratitude
for the forgotten lives
that give you life."

Touching

Photo: (c) Jamie K. Reaser

The sun broke
through the rain clouds
the very instant
the cormorant rose and rippled
Autumn-colored
waters.

I’m sure they kissed.

What is this that I have witnessed?

When the spirits borrow
the fleeting body
dreams become tangible
possibilities.

A hand can reach into
another
to comfort and inspire
the Soul.
